Project coordinator and data scientist in the HMS LSP
The Laboratory of Systems Pharmacology (LSP) at HMS seeks an individual to serve as a project coordinator and data scientist for a recently developed large-scale model of the Ras oncogene pathway. This DARPA-funded computational model, the Ras Executable Model (REM; http://rasmodel.org), is being developed in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute as a first-in-kind attempt to integrate data on protein structure, biochemical activity, oncogenic mutation and genetic interaction for the purpose of accelerating fundamental understanding of signal transduction and the development of new therapies for RAS driven tumors.
The LSP-based REM project coordinator and data scientist will have a PhD in biology, chemistry or a related discipline and experience with signal transduction or cancer biology. Excellent writing skills, the ability to work with others and good working knowledge of cell biology and cellular biochemistry is necessary. Knowledge of computer programming is a plus but is not required. The candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of computational and experimental scientists and will learn about contemporary approaches to computer-aided analysis of biochemical mechanism. The candidate will also attend national and international conferences, serve as the public face of REM to NCI investigators, interact frequently with scientists in industry and contribute to papers.
Following an initial evaluation period the successful candidate will be appointed as a research associate for two years, with the possibility of renewal. It is not anticipated that the position will involve any experimental work, but this is not excluded for a candidate with the right qualifications.
